CherriPik Origins

With all the search engines, map apps, social apps, and directories out there, people still have a hard time finding a local business - let alone local offers. Unbelievable but true. We set out to change that.

We've been in the local search space since 2006 and started on this adventure because we couldn't find local products and services online. We created a website called Zidster.com and used Localeze data for three states, NJ, NY, and PA. Our advantage was being able to search for a business based on products and services not just name or category. Although we had good info from Localeze we needed more granularity from the actual businesses. It was tough going trying to get product/service info from SMBs even though we offered to collect it at no cost to the business. Plus, at that time Google decided they wanted to be in the local business.

In 2012 we started talking about creating an app to help people find local businesses. What really cemented our approach was when Gary, Co-Founder, had his flight diverted from Miami to Dallas forcing him to find overnight accommodations. There was nothing useful to help him find a hotel. (continued next column)

He called me and said "we need to build the app such that we show all the hotels nearby." Now lots of apps can do that, but we hit on the idea of displaying business logos right on the map. Like billboards along the highway. You've heard the old adage 'a picture says a thousand words', now 'a logo says a thousand words', it conjures memories of smells, tastes, and feelings.

But we knew it's not enough to just have logos, and that's where offers come in. Our goal is that CherriPik becomes your go to app to 'Find Your Offer!'
